Jobseekers are hearing a lot about ATS-friendly CVs, but some of the claims being made around them deserve to be questioned.
If someone tells you that a particular CV format will give you a 95% recruiter response rate or guarantee that your CV will pass every ATS, ask them to show you the evidence behind that claim.
Which ATS are you actually optimising for? There is no single ATS used by every employer, and different systems can be configured differently.
Where did your success rate come from? Ask for the sample size, timeframe, data and methodology behind claims such as “95% recruiter response.”
Does the ATS actually reject my CV? Ask whether the system is screening your application out or simply parsing, storing, searching and ranking candidate information.
Are you optimising my CV for a specific job or simply adding keywords? Keywords should reflect your genuine experience and the requirements of the role. Adding keywords without the relevant experience does not make you a stronger candidate.
Can you guarantee that a recruiter will contact me? If the answer is no, then be careful about anyone presenting a CV format as a guaranteed route to interviews.
A well-structured CV absolutely matters, and making your experience relevant to the role matters even more. But there is no magic CV format that can guarantee an interview or a recruiter response.
Jobseekers should ask questions, demand evidence and understand how hiring actually works before paying anyone for an “ATS solution.”
Your career deserves better than marketing claims presented as facts.
